Core Advantages
Six Reasons Owners Choose Glintcase
Each of these reflects a specific decision made in how the workshop was set up — not features added for marketing, but practices the work depends on.
Assessment Before Any Work
Every case is examined under magnification before the scope is agreed. This is not a formality — it is how the workshop determines what is possible, what is advisable, and what should be left alone.
- 10x minimum magnification at intake
- Metal type and finish condition noted
- Pre-existing damage documented
Hand Work Throughout
No rotary buffing machines on case surfaces. Hand work takes longer and requires more skill, but it is the only method that allows the finisher to feel what the surface is doing and stop at the right moment.
- Brushed surfaces finished with grain pads
- Polished panels buffed by hand with cloth wheels
- Bevels refined with dedicated sticks
Written Scope on Every Job
Before any surface is touched, a written note describes exactly what will be done. For restoration projects, this becomes a signed agreement. The scope does not change during work without your knowledge and consent.
- Written note for all service tiers
- Signed agreement for restoration projects
- No undisclosed additions to invoice
Case Geometry Preserved
The defining characteristic of quality case finishing is what stays sharp. Bevels, lugs, and case transitions are worked carefully to maintain the original geometry — not flattened to achieve a faster, more uniform result.
- Bevel definition maintained or restored
- Lug transitions preserved
- Engravings protected throughout
Honest Communication
The workshop will tell you what cannot be done as readily as what can. If the assessment shows the case wear is beyond what polishing can address without damaging the proportions, that is stated — and the piece is returned without charge for work not carried out.
- Clear limits stated at assessment
- No charge for uncarried work
- Mid-project updates on longer jobs
Transparent, Fixed Pricing
All three services are published at fixed prices. The Light Polish is RM 480, Bracelet Adjustment RM 590, and Full Case Restoration RM 2,210. The price agreed at scope sign-off is the price on the invoice — not an estimate subject to revision.
- Published prices, no hidden additions
- Fixed at scope agreement, not on collection
- 50% deposit for restoration (balance on collection)

What Each Benefit Means in Practice
Fifteen Years of Surface Work
The workshop lead has been working on watch case surfaces since 2010 — first in a regional distributor's service department, then at Glintcase from its opening in 2011. This means the person carrying out your assessment has encountered the full range of metal conditions, finish variations, and common polishing mistakes that occur in this trade.
Expertise in this context is not about speed. It is about knowing which grain pad to select for a particular steel alloy, how much pressure is appropriate on a polished bevel before the geometry starts to shift, and when to stop rather than push for a result the surface cannot sustain.

A Fixed Sequence, Applied to Every Piece
The five-step process does not change based on service tier or price. The Light Polish and the Full Restoration start with the same intake photography, the same magnification assessment, and the same written scope. The only difference is the depth of work that follows.
This consistency matters because it eliminates the risk of a piece being worked without proper documentation — which is how most surface damage in this trade occurs.
How We Compare
Glintcase vs General Polishing Services
The comparison below describes differences in approach rather than naming individual providers. Most general polishing services — including those offered at service centres as part of a full service — operate differently to a dedicated surface workshop.
| Feature | General Service | Glintcase |
|---|---|---|
| Magnification assessment at intake | ||
| Written scope agreed before work begins | ||
| Hand work only (no rotary buffing on cases) | ||
| Grain direction matched to factory original | ||
| Bevel geometry preserved throughout | ||
| Fixed published pricing, not estimated | ||
| Workshop note provided at collection | ||
| Honest assessment of what cannot be done | ||
| Dedicated to surface work only |
Distinctive Practices
What Makes the Workshop Different
The Workshop Declines Pieces It Cannot Help
If the assessment shows the case condition is beyond what the workshop can address without damaging proportions, the piece is returned without charge. This happens a small number of times each year and is considered part of operating honestly.
Surface Work Only — No Full Service Upselling
The workshop handles case and bracelet exterior refinishing exclusively. It does not offer movement servicing. This means your piece is not evaluated as a candidate for additional work that falls outside the agreed scope.
Patina Preservation Recommended Where Appropriate
For vintage pieces or watches where surface character contributes to value, the workshop may recommend doing less rather than more. This is not a sales tactic — it is an honest view of what the piece will look like after aggressive polishing removes its history.
Remote Enquiries Accepted with Photographs
Owners outside Ipoh can send photographs and a description of the piece for a preliminary view on whether the service is appropriate. This does not replace the in-person assessment, but it avoids unnecessary trips for pieces that fall outside the workshop's scope.
